How I Work With You

Coffee in Window.jpg

I work primarily with individuals who have experienced trauma, using a trauma-informed approach that helps you feel safe, heard, and empowered throughout our work together. I understand that trauma isn’t just something that happens to us—it affects the way we see the world and ourselves. My approach focuses on recognizing the impact of that trauma and providing you with tools to heal and grow.

In addition to trauma, I work through an attachment lens to explore how early relationships and childhood experiences shape the way we interact with others and manage life’s challenges. Attachment injuries can influence many areas of our lives, often leading to feelings of fear, anxiety, depression, and complicating how we process grief and loss. By understanding these patterns, we can begin to heal old wounds and build healthier, more secure connections in the present.

I also have experience working with individuals who live with chronic pain, helping them recognize that they are not alone in their struggles. Chronic pain can have a profound impact on a person’s emotional and mental wellbeing, and I aim to provide a supportive, compassionate space for you to process the complex emotions tied to your experience.

Another area I truly enjoy is supporting people through life transitions. Whether you're going through a recent move, retirement, becoming a parent (including postpartum care), questioning your sexuality, navigating puberty, or making decisions about your life direction, I am here to help. These transitions can be overwhelming, but they are also opportunities for growth. Together, we’ll work on building your self-esteem and confidence, so you can move forward with clarity and feel empowered to make decisions that align with your true self.

No matter what challenges you're facing, my goal is to provide the support, understanding, and guidance you need to heal, grow, and move forward in life with confidence and peace.

TRAINING

Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy

This form of therapy is designed to help you work through past experiences that continue to influence you today. Whether these issues stem from attachment patterns, emotional stunting, or other challenges, we’ll explore how they show up in your life and affect your current emotional wellbeing.

The aim is to help you feel secure and grounded within yourself, using the resources you already possess. When you feel safe, it becomes easier to access and express emotions that may have felt difficult or overwhelming before. This process is not about revisiting pain for the sake of it; rather, it's about understanding and healing those past experiences so you can move forward with confidence and a clearer sense of self.

By addressing past wounds in a supportive, compassionate environment, we open the door for emotional growth and a deeper connection to yourself and others.

Emotionally Focused Couples' Therapy

Couples’ therapy with me focuses on understanding the cycle that you and your partner are in. Together, we’ll explore how each of you reacts to the other and how those reactions make you feel in the moment. Often, misunderstandings arise when we misinterpret or misread our partner’s actions, which can lead to unnecessary tension and frustration.

By taking the time to understand each other’s perspectives and reactions, we can begin to unlock new ways of communicating and connecting. This process helps create space for more meaningful conversations and can lead to a deeper bond between you and your partner.

Through this work, we aim to improve not only how you communicate but also how you truly listen to and support each other, allowing for a stronger, more understanding relationship.

Somatic Trauma Work

Our bodies hold onto the feelings and emotions from traumatic events, which is why we often experience 'triggers'—certain sounds, smells, touches, or sensations that can make us feel like we need to run, hide, or even scream. These triggers can seem confusing because we might not always recognize what’s causing the reaction, but our bodies remember.

The key to working through these reactions is understanding why and how these triggers continue to affect you. By exploring how your body responds to certain stimuli, we can uncover the deeper connections and find ways to process and release these stored emotions. This approach helps you gain control over those moments when triggers arise, allowing you to respond with greater understanding and less fear.

Together, we can work through these challenges and move forward, helping you feel more grounded and empowered in your daily life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

My Master's degree focused on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and while my practice doesn’t always follow a traditional CBT format, the foundation it provided has been incredibly valuable. I’m passionate about using the tools I’ve learned in a way that’s flexible and tailored to your unique needs. Every person is different, and so is every therapeutic journey.

CBT has given me effective techniques to help you develop new coping skills and address challenges in a way that makes sense for you. Instead of applying a one-size-fits-all approach, I adapt these tools to fit your life, ensuring that the strategies we explore feel truly relevant and supportive for your specific situation.

My goal is to make sure you feel heard and supported, with practical tools to help you create lasting change and move forward with confidence.
